Tudor Banquet

To find out what food was like in Tudor times we prepared our own from Tudor recipes. Everyone got a chance to help with cooking and baking - and we did our own tidying and washing up afterwards!

Peeling vegetables for the potage.Thankfully no cuts from the knives and peelers!

Preparing the spicy apple tarts

These biscuits are called lover's knots!

Not much left of the potage by the time we  remembered to take a photo!

We had to use plastic plates and cutlery so the colours were a bit bright and not very Tudor! Don't worry the wine was just grape juice!

Waiting for grace to be said.

Ready to eat.

In costume!

We learned a Tudor dance called The Old Mole and danced it after we had eaten our food.
Here is one version.

Afterwards Emma read us a special type of poem written by William Shakespeare. It is called a sonnet. A sonnet has 14 lines and follows a particular pattern of rhymes and rhythm.

Tudor writing

We had a try at writing with quills and ink. It was tricky not to make blotches on our work. Some of the quills were quite thick and some were blunt. We had to keep dipping them in the ink and soon realised that it would have taken a long time to write a document neatly with a quill - especially if you had to start again if you made a mistake or a blot!
I think we'll stick to pencils and biros!

Tudors and Stuarts

Research
We were set a challenge to research an aspect of Tudor life and create a display for the wall. We also needed to present our display to the rest of the class.
Presenting information about explorers. We made ours in the form of a book.

We even included a snap game with our display on Tudor costumes.

We found lots of information on the theatre and included quotes form Shakespeare in our display.

We included a 3D model in our Tudor house display.

There was a great variety of facts to discover about the lives of Tudor children.

Medal winners

Last weekend was a very busy weekend for sport. We had lots of people who won medals for athletics when competing against teams from Shetland and Aberdeen.
There were also some football winners in the class.
Here we are proudly showing off our medals.

Spelling

On Friday mornings we have a review of the week to see what we have learned and it is a chance to practise the spelling we have for homework. Last week we made word searches with our words and on Friday we swapped books with our learning buddies so that we could try each other's puzzles.

Tag rugby

Our tag rugby sessions have started once again. It's a chance to practise the skills we have learned and to improve our cooperation and teamwork. We are preparing for the tag rugby festival that takes place at the Picky on Friday this week.
Thank you in advance to parents for help with supervision during these sessions.

Challenger bus

Today the Challenger bus was in our car park and we had the chance to have a fun session with the crew.

We went upstairs where they have a video screen and we started with a lively song. We were shown a selection of bibles, including the smallest one in the world which requires a magnifying glass to read it. We even heard a bit read in French!

After that we learned about a Scottish minister called John Harper who became known as a hero on board the Titanic. He gave his life jacket to another passenger whilst in the water and, although he lost his life, he saved someone else's.

We finished off with a quiz in which we answered all the questions correctly and was won by the 'Meanminions' team. It was an enjoyable afternoon for everyone.
